Stephanie Claussen
Stephanie Claussen is an Associate Teaching Professor in Electrical Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. Her research interests include optoelectronic device design, novel photonic materials, and engineering education. She earned her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a Ph.D. Minor in Education from Stanford University in 2012, and her B.S. from MIT in 2005. Dr. Claussen strives to bring innovative teaching practices to her classrooms, including project-based and active learning in large lectures. She is currently working on projects related to hybrid optoelectronic-superconducting systems and the role of humanitarian engineering in the engineering core.

  • Dr. Ferri mentioned that having faculty-created videos fosters a connection between the students and instructor. One benefit I could see from online ed is the ability to leverage resources that are already created (e.g. a video from another university). But what will be the students' perception of a situation like this? Some have speculated that students view their instructor as the one on the video, not the on-campus faculty member who is facilitating their learning, creating the assessments, answering questions, etc. Who do students think is doing the teaching in a course like this?
