Biography

For 16 years, I’ve taught, done educational research, and served as academic advisor in first-year engineering programs at Virginia Tech (1998-2008) and Michigan Tech (2008-2014, as department chair for Engineering Fundamentals). Currently I am an associate professor in Materials Science and Engineering at Michigan Tech. I’ve received major funding through NSF STEP and ITEST grants. Prior to university, I worked at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL, Washington, DC). I hold degrees in chemical (BS, Michigan Tech; MChE, University of Delaware) and metallurgical engineering (PhD, Michigan Tech) and worked as a visiting researcher at Ruhr University, Bochum, Germany (DAAD grant).
