Biography
Dr. Robert Siston is entering his first year as an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Ohio State, his alma mater(B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2000). He earned his M.S. (2002) and Ph.D. (2005) in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. His research focuses on biomechanics and is broadly investigating the treatment of knee osteoarthritis, with funding from the National Institutes of Health, foundations, and industry. As a participant here in 2010, he presented work on an interdisciplinary capstone design course, in which engineering undergraduates worked with clinical graduate students to design assistive devices for persons with disabilities. The course was funded by the NSF, and now has NIH funding. Currently, he is teaching a junior-level machine elements course with an inverted classroom approach and is exploring the use of social media (YouTube and Facebook) to disseminate research findings to different communities.
